AGSB Enjoy Further Success in the MFL National Translation Bee Competition

On Thursday 8th June, Ivor D, Ans I, Asadulla M, Mekyle C, Soham B and Sarthak B went to Lancaster University to represent the school in the regional finals of the Routes into Languages Translation Bee.

The day started with a tour of the campus, giving them an insight into a student’s life. They were then sent to their respective lecture theatre to determine who would go to the national finals in Cambridge. A staggering number of 2450 year 8 and 9 pupils originally entered the competition in the Northwest and northeast of England and, in this stage, the best 48 (or 2%) battled it to translate as many sentences as possible in one minute.

We want to congratulate all our competitors for their effort and commitment, and we are extremely proud to announce that Asadulla won the regional final and is the North of England champion for Spanish. Mekyle came 5th and will also be representing the school in the National finals. We are also delighted that Ivor and Ans made it through for French and we wish them all the best of luck in Cambridge on the 3rd of July.
