Art
our curriculum Aims
The aim of the Art and Design department is to develop pupils' awareness and understanding of visual language, and to equip them with the skills to express their own ideas creatively and confidently.
We strive to provide a curriculum that encourages students to become confident, independent learners. Through a wide range of practical opportunities, students will develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, textiles, printmaking, and digital media. Our diverse schemes of work cover various artistic disciplines, allowing students to explore and engage with different creative practices.
Throughout their studies, students will be introduced to a broad spectrum of artists — from historical masters to contemporary creators. Each term, students will explore aspects of art history, deepening their understanding of how art reflects, influences, and shapes society.
We believe it is essential that students develop a critical understanding of art, enabling them to reflect on, evaluate, and discuss their own work as well as the work of others.
