National Hockey Success for Altrincham Grammar School for Boys

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys senior indoor hockey squad fought off fierce competition to be crowned Silver Medallists in the National Indoor Schools Hockey Championships which took place in London.

Pitched against the nine finest hockey schools in the UK, AGSB were the only state school to reach the finals. They won their group with convincing wins against hockey giants such as Repton School and Dean Close. In the semi-final they came up against local rivals, The Manchester Grammar School and won 5-2. In the final they played Whitgift School who hosted the event. In a tense match, the final score ended 2-2. The National title was decided on penalty flicks – unfortunately AGSB lost 0-1.

Whilst naturally disappointed that the boys were not able to "bring home the trophy", the boys have done themselves, the school and the region proud. This really is a "David v Goliath" story; since its   inception in 1994 (25 years ago), AGSB are the first ever school from the North to make the final.

AGSB have been National Indoor finalists for the last 3 years.
