Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is one of the top 20 boys state schools in the country. The Advanced Level results in Summer 2006 showed the School to be the top performing boys state school in the North West of England.

Between ten and twenty places are available for entry into the Sixth Form each year. There is an entry requirement of an average of a B grade from the student’s best 8 subjects at G.C.S.E. level. Further details of the 6 th Form Admissions Policy are available from the School Office.

The School offers 26 subjects at A level. All the traditional subjects are available alongside newer disciplines such as Technology, Computing, Politics and Geology.

Examination results are always strong. At Advanced Level in 2006 43% achieved Grade A and 73% passed at grades A to B. With such high grades almost all students have the choice of the best courses at the best Universities.

A long established Prefect system gives all Sixth Formers the opportunity to exercise leadership and a 6 th Form Council is involved in the decision making about school issues.

A new 6 th Form Centre with extensive private study areas and recreational space opened in September. This has provided even greater opportunities to enrich 6 th Form experiences.
