The quality of our children's education in the future depends on a flow of well qualified new entrants to the profession.

AGSB has played its part in ITT for around 15 years. In the last 2 years however, we have developed much stronger links with local universities responsible for Teacher Training, as a result of a 1 year AST in ITT appointment for ITT organiser Gill Warboys, funded by the Department of Education and Science.

At least half our staff are currently trained / active subject mentors who monitor and supervise trainee teachers who are placed in the school. This is excellent professional development for staff and and keeps AGSB staff at the forefront of new developments. New trainees bring enthusiasm, new ideas and vibrancy to the staff room. In the academic year 2002-2003 two outstanding trainees were appointed to the school.

The quality of ITT work here has been recognised by the TTA (Teacher Training Agency) and we have been awarded the status of Partnership Promotional School, which also brings financial benefits in consultancy fees etc., Only 3 schools in the Trafford area have this status.

We are involved in a number of initiatives including a "Taster Day" for mature possible entrants to the profession and the University of Manchester Associate Student Scheme, which brings undergraduates into schools to act as classroom assistants. Some teachers give lectures for the universities and several other initiatives including an ITT Partnership with Altrincham College of Arts are planned.
