Extra Curricular Activities
ICT suites are open at lunchtime and after school to allow pupils to produce work or practice their ICT skills. A broadband connection is available throughout the School for research on the Internet and to provide access to email. Several clubs run after school, including the supervised games nights, Web Design Club and TMFM Radio, AGSB's internet radio station.
Initial Teacher Training
The Department is affiliated with Manchester Metropolitan University and provides mentoring for several trainees each academic year. Mentoring is headed by Mr J. Timmins and also undertaken by other department staff. Trainees enjoy a broad school-based experience covering years 7-13 and are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities.
Cross-Curricular ICT at KS4
Pupils at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys are expected to apply their knowledge of, understanding of and skill with ICT to work in other subject areas. At Key Stage 4, Years 10 & 11, pupils compile a portfolio of subject work which uses ICT. Pupils can also include the best examples of their ICT work from Key Stage 3. Samples of work are sent to the ICT Department (in S10) by subject teachers and by pupils.
The work is assessed by the subject teachers against a set of 27 ICT based criteria, drawn from best practice. At the end of Year 11 those pupils who achieve at least ten criteria are awarded a Certificate of Achievement in the Use of ICT. Pupils who achieve fewer than the minimum are provided with a Statement of Achievement in the Use of ICT.

Introduction
ICT has a critical role to play in the modern world, and in the learning process at all levels. It is our policy to enable pupils to become computer literate and to provide the required resources
so that ICT can be used fully to facilitate and enhance learning across all curriculum areas.
ICT is compulsary in years 7-9, and is taught for one hour per week. The KS3 syllabus covers word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, databases, data handling, control, modelling, website design and animation. The subject is available as an option at GCSE, AS and A2 levels.
