2012 School Centenary

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2012 – the Centenary of the School

A message from the Head Master

For the past 12 months a committee with representation from boys, teaching staff and non-teaching staff, Governors, Parents' Association and Old Altrinchamians has been meeting every half-term to plan for our Centenary next year. The Committee is planning some excellent events for the Centenary year and two dates for your diary are worth noting even now.

A Centenary Ball will take place on 4th February 2012 and the Centenary Concert will be held at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on 30th April (almost exactly 100 years after the foundation of the School). A colourful and readable Centenary book will be available for purchase from Autumn 2011 and we look forward to involving the whole School in a Centenary Sports Day event in summer. Time marches ever on and from January 2012 the Centenary Clock, which is under construction, built by boys under the guidance of master craftsman Garry Binns, our Technology Technician, will begin the countdown to the second centenary of the School in 2112.

In order to raise awareness of our Centenary both within and without the School we held a Centenary logo competition last year. The winning design is featured below. It was designed by Gerard Southworth in Y10. You will have probably noticed it as the "signature" at the bottom of all School emails and the logo will be featured in all Centenary publications, products and events. It is a very handsome logo which everyone associated with the School is proud to use.
